Note from President Madelyn Ross
May is a season of transitions, with graduations, celebrations, and students starting summer jobs and new careers. This May is also a time of transition at the US-China Education Trust, as I prepare to step down as USCET’s president in June. It is now 45 years since my own graduation from college, when I set off for a life-changing year of teaching and studying in China. The evolving landscape of China and US-China relations has been part of my life ever since, and will remain so. Yet, while I have mixed emotions about retiring from a fulfilling job and career, it gives me great pleasure to be able to hand the reins to Ms. Rosie Levine, who will join USCET as Executive Director in June. You can learn more about Rosie below, and I think you will agree that she has the experience and dedication to strongly carry USCET’s mission forward!
Another source of confidence is USCET’s people and history. Founding President Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch remains active as Executive Chair, as do many Advisory Council members who joined USCET in its earliest days; our COO, Ye Sheng, is in her ninth year and administrator David Yao in his eighth year with USCET. And, as you will note in this newsletter, we celebrate our long history in China with several important anniversaries this fall–the 20th anniversary of the American Studies Network, the 25th anniversary of USCET, and the 35th anniversary of the F.Y. Chang Foundation, USCET’s parent organization.
Thank you all for supporting USCET as it continues its longstanding work of promoting mutual understanding, education, and exchange to help keep US-China relations stable. This work is never more important than at times like these.
