USCET’s current fellowship and scholarship programs award outstanding students in the China and the United States with funds to complete research projects regarding East Asian countries and their engagement with the world. In the past, USCET also offered programs that helped Chinese university students in American studies and media education to attend Summer Institutes in the United States and supported tuition and expenses for low-income Chinese students, enabling them to attend university.


Samuel “Sandy” R. Berger Memorial Fellowship at Peking University (2019 – Present)

In remembrance of the late Honorable Samuel R. “Sandy” Berger, USCET’s scholarship supports graduate students, doctoral and post-doctoral candidates, and junior faculty members at Peking University’s School of International Studies.

The Ambassador Julia Chang Bloch Fellowships in Asian Studies (2023 – Present)

These competitive awards are open to undergraduate students at specific institutions, beginning in 2023 with students at the University of California at Berkeley and the University of Miami. The awards support fellows completing projects on strategic, political, economic, or socio-cultural issues related to Asia.
