Culinary Diplomacy

Program Goal

To create safe spaces for Chinese and Americans who may not otherwise socialize to come together and exchange thoughts and ideas freely.

USCET intend to tap the power of food to build bilateral understanding and ease strategic distrust between the U.S. and China. Contributing to this goal, USCET also intends to help Chinese audiences better understand the history of Chinese immigration and assimilation in the United States and to promote awareness of America’s value of diversity through the lens of Asian Americans and their foods.

Malaysian-born and New York-based chef Simpson Wong, and award-winning author and film producer Jennifer 8. Lee were featured in the program.

USCET invited them for a dialogue on Asian American identity and how shared cuisine continues to foster deep links between Chinese and American communities.
