Financial Media Institute 2010
Fudan University | May 24-28, 2010
The fourth Financial Media Institute (FMI) was hosted by Fudan University’s School of Journalism in collaboration with Hong Kong Baptist University, and the University of Maryland Philip Merrill School of Journalism. It was directed by Zhou Nailing of Tsinghua University’s Global Business Journalism program, and co-directed by Fudan professor Zhang Zhian.
Nearly 100 students from the Mainland and Hong Kong applied for only 32 places in the week-long institute. The resulting class was the strongest and most diverse in the history of the FMI, with students from fifteen universities in eight cities.
This year’s courses includes Business Reporting for Broadcast, Intro to Economics for Business Reporters, How to Read Financial Statements, Ethics and Best Practices, Focus on the Renminbi and Currency Issues, and a fieldtrip to Bloomberg News.
For the first time, FMI alumni were also invited to participate in sessions on the final day of the institute. Past participants shared their experiences as part of a “How to Find a Job” panel, and joined this year’s students and faculty for the closing ceremony and lunch.
