February 14-24th, 2022 (on demand)
featuring introduction by Mike Chinoy, former CNN Senior Asia Correspondent
To kick-off our commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Nixon’s historic visit to China, USCET and the Sigur Center for Asian Studies will host a ten-day virtual screening of “Assignment: China – The Week That Changed The World.” Nixon’s visit was a major milestone for US journalism, as nearly 100 American journalists were allowed to enter China for the first time since the establishment of the PRC in 1949. This segment of Assignment: China dives deep into the behind-the-scenes story of how the media covered Nixon’s visit to China, including previously unreleased footage, and interviews with officials who sought to shape the coverage and journalists who were on the ground in Beijing. Mike Chinoy, narrator of the segment and formerly CNN’s Senior Asia Correspondent and Beijing Bureau Chief, will offer a brief video introduction and answer questions sent in by viewers.
