USCET Asian Americans in the Arts program in China

The most recent installment of our Asian Americans in the Arts program took place at three universities from March 26 to April 3. Journalist and author Frank Ching, and award-winning filmmaker Shirley Sun headlined a series of events around the theme “Bridging Cultures.” Students from Beijing Foreign Studies University, Northeast Normal University and Jiangnan University were able to take part in a film screening, lectures and presentations from our speakers, and a panel discussion. Book Donation Ceremony at InfoUSA@BFSU

On March 28, representatives from the U.S. Embassy, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and USCET gathered to recognize a gift of over 3,000 books and nearly 800 microfiches donated to BFSU by the U.S. Embassy. Minister-Counselor Thomas Hodges, BFSU Vice President Yan Guohua, and USCET President Julia Chang Bloch gave short speeches at the event, expressing the desire to continue to deepen friendships between the U.S. and China through education and exchange. The books and microfilms are housed on the third floor of BFSU’s newly-constructed library.

Soft-Power Publication

USCET is pleased to announce that our publication from the 2011 and 2012 American Studies Network (ASN) Conferences is wrapping up to print this season, thanks to our editor, Professor Priscilla Roberts of the University of Hong Kong. The book is scheduled to be in print by this summer and will be available for purchase then. While in China, USCET hosted dinners in Beijing, Shanghai, and Wuxi to honor contributors of the publication. To those of you that were able to make it to those dinners, it was a pleasure to see you all again!
